The 2008 Fusion lasts over 250,000 miles with only some brake and dashboard issues. At $4,300–4,809, it’s an affordable choice for a dependable and roomy sedan.

2008 Ford Fusion Review, Problems, Reliability, Value, Life Expectancy, MPG (1)

The Good

Passenger space is great, the suspension is smooth and the infotainment system is easy to use.

The Bad

Interior materials are cheap, the gauges are hard to read and the turning radius is wide.

  • Yes, 2008 is a good year. Owner reviews praise the roominess, dependable engines, and ease of repairs.

Overall comfortable, reliable and easy to drive.

My car was purchased used low mileage. Currently has over 120, 000 miles and still runs like a champ. I have had minor mechanical problems recently, normal wear and tear. Could offer more head room, us taller people need more room. The car is eligible for satellite radio as well.

Rhiannon H

Easy to drive and operate with lots of great features.

Love the in car bluetooth, sunroof, accent lights and the gas mileage. I also like that it beeps at my when I am reversing if I am too close to an object. I do not dislike anything, but if I could change one thing it would be to have heated seats.

My 2008 Ford Fusion SE- Reliable

My car has been extremely reliable. With normal maintenance costs and issues, this car will run for many more miles. I have taken road trips across country a few times and it's never done me wrong. If you keep up on normal oil changes, tires, brakes, etc., everything runs great. I have replaced the tensioner once and some other things along the way that seem to have worn out naturally. No complaints about this car. I would recommend to anyone wanting a reliable vehicle.

Ray F

Ford is the Finest Fusion on the road

I have had no problems. All features work well. Radio, AC, power items. Body and paint have held up well. Interior ready to keep.clean. Engine is quiet and has good acceleration and power. Highway gas mileage is excellent at 34 mpg. Braking is solid and safe.

Jordan L

That it doesn't matter the history of the car as long as it gets you where you need to go

I like that my car is modern, has everything I need to get me where I need to go, and holds up great. The only issue I have had is that the check engine light comes on frequently for no reason.

Becky S

Handles well in all weather

I love the 6-CD changer but more importantly, my car unlike many newer models is solid and can withstand an impact. It handles well in bad weather, and can transport a large amount of things. Not high maintenance on repairs. My only complaint is the cheap inside door handle that keeps breaking

Elizabeth C

People should know that the Ford Fusion is an extremely reliable vehicle.

My car is comfortable, reliable and is the right size for me. I rarely have had any issues with it. It gets decent gas mileage in town and on the highway, although I would like better gas mileage.

Sean M

The biggest highlight of the car is the gas mileage!

Car is great on gas mileage!! I haven't had really any problems with the car yet and I'm now over 110,000 miles on it. I would highly recommend these types of vehicles for others to buy or at least consider!

Junk not happy with this car

Its junk it is rusted completely replaced almost everything in motor already and now it ticks I had to fix the brake calipers twice everything inside is cheap and breaks very easy bought this brand new with almost no miles on it all I have on it is 90,000 miles now not happy I paid 40,000$ cash for this junk

Russell hay

Never again

Abs failed 1200 bucks, both door handles broke repaired myself at 40000. Now moonroof fails! Should of stayed with Subaru, Never a Ford agsin

Leanne L

The window in back makes it hard to backup.

It leaks water from the air conditioner. The back window is hard to clean. Too low to the ground. Air does not get cold enough. Car Bluetooth died early on.

What is purpose of review for

This car is ok and is in good condition. It is needing an update due to age only but what details are needed?

Abby S

It is a four-door. It runs well. It is fairly low to the ground.

My vehicle is comfortable. It has many miles on it but it is still driving well. I have had a lot of work done on it. However, there is a recall on the passenger air bag. My understanding is that it has been known to deploy without necessity. Otherwise, it gets me from place to place.

Kourtney G

Fix Or Repair Daily. A Ford review for 2008 Ford Fusion buyers to consider

The vehicle is comfortable & fast. It was a previous government car. I have frequent problems with lights (brake lights, signals, etc.) going out. Also, the alignment isn't good as it drives bad in the rain or snow. My windshield wipers give out often. No engine problems. No electrical problems and lots of space on the inside for a compact car.

Ford fusion, dependable but sucks overall.

My drivers side window doesn't roll down. It gets best gas mileage. Other than that it's fine. Plenty of space, the lights blow out often and the breaks have had some issues. Fairly dependable but I am going to get rid of it when I can. Would much rather have a foreign car since they are far more dependable.

Stephanie K

Interesting that Ford has yet to recall the brake problem.

Have had a problem with the brakes that I have read a lot of other people had the same issue and it should have been a recall from ford. Also have had problems with my serpentine belt coming off. Have had to change a pulley and tensioner which hopefully has fixed the problem.

What Do Critics Say About the Fusion?

  • Consumer Reports says the Fusion is satisfying to drive, and has average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Fusion a 4.8/5 liking the smooth ride, but disliking the weak base engine.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Fusion 4.6/5 and enjoy the passenger space, but mention low resale value.

What Common Problems Does the 2008 Ford Fusion Have?

Problems found on the 2008 Fusion include a spongy brake feel, cracked dashboards, and worn-out coil packs.

Spongy brakes are the most common complaint from owners at about 115,000 miles. It’s usually a sign of a problem with the brake master cylinder or booster, which cost around $850 to replace.

Cracked dashboards show up on a lot of cars within the first 80,000 miles. Some owners replace the dash costing around $1,000, while others install a dash cover for under $100.

Worn out coil packs are another frequent complaint at around 95,000 miles. A lot of coil packs are considered consumable and wear out over time. Replacing the coils costs about $450.

There are 7 fairly minor recalls, with the most serious one covering the antilock brake valve which may get stuck open after it has to engage.

How Long Will the 2008 Ford Fusion Last?

A well-maintained 2008 Fusion will last over 250,000 miles, which is about 50,000 miles more than a Toyota Camry from the same year. Repair Pal estimates annual maintenance costs to be higher than rivals, at $462 per year.

Most 2008 Fusions will have over 100,000 miles so buyers should be prepared to replace the PCV valve for $250, valve cover gasket costing $200, and the power steering hose which is $400.

David M

Yes, this car used to be reliable and trustworthy, but time has went on and normal wear and tear has occurred so it has deteriorated somewhat and become an issue to use it. Normal wear and tear issues that seem like too much to keep fixing.

Lisa S

It has been mostly reliable. Transmission did go out of it at around 173k miles. Other than that there have been no major issues.

Darrian S

Yes it is reliable. I haven't had any problems. A minor issue with the windshield wiper but nothing major.

Carter F

I find it very reliable. The only problems I have had are with sensors and lights on the dash being active even after I have fixed what it wants in the reports. However, I did buy the car as a r title and since then have crashed it again. However, it is up and running again after a long labor of love montage, the problem is minor though and having bought it used is not unheard of and really good for that being the only thing wrong with it.

Stacie C

I have never had a single issue. It is very good on gas and reasonable to maintain. Limited number of recalls.

Kelsey M

My fusion is reliable and it was very reliable when I first got it but now it is nearly 10 years old and I have not kept up on it like I should have so I think it is going to go soon.

Jackie C

It has some minor issues and needs new tires but it has no big problems, it runs fine and that's good for me.

Christ G

During the time that I have owned my Ford Fusion, I have never had it break down on me or cause any expensive issues in terms of repair.

How Much Is the 2008 Ford Fusion Worth?

Blue book values range from $4,300–4,809, making the Fusion about $1,200 cheaper than a Honda Accord or Nissan Altima. When new, the price range was $18.135 to $24,750. Depreciation is average for a sedan, losing about 10% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Fusion?

There are three models of the Fusion available. Technology was last updated for 2007, with a new infotainment system added in 2010.

S is the entry-level model with:

  • 16-Inch Steel Wheels
  • Cloth Seating
  • Cruise Control
  • Keyless Entry
  • 4-Speaker AM/FM/CD Stereo With 3.5mm AUX Input

SE is a step up adding features such as:

What Engines Come In the Fusion?

  • The base engine is a relatively weak 2.3L 4-cylinder with 160 horsepower which gets up to 23 MPG combined.
  • An available upgrade is the more powerful 3.0L V6, which makes 221 horsepower and gets up to 21 MPG combined. Performance is similar to other sedans, taking 7.3 seconds to go 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the Fusion Come In?

2008 Ford Fusion Review, Problems, Reliability, Value, Life Expectancy, MPG (2)

How Big Is the Fusion?

The 2008 Fusion is a midsize sedan similar to the Hyundai Sonata or Chevy Malibu. There’s more passenger room than many competitors, easily fitting adults in the backseats.

The trunk offers average cargo space for a sedan and will fit 3 to 4 suitcases in the 15.8 cubic foot trunk.

2008 Ford Fusion Review, Problems, Reliability, Value, Life Expectancy, MPG (3)

How Does the Fusion Compare to the Competition?

The Toyota Camry is a popular rival which costs about $1,500 more. Performance is better in the V6 Camry, but the Fusion has a roomier cabin. We recommend the Fusion for the 2008 model year since there are so many problems with the Camry, but other years the competition is closer.

The Ford Focus is another competitor costing about $800 less. Where the Focus stands out is with more nimble handling, but the Fusion has better passenger space. We recommend the Fusion since there are fewer complaints for the 2008 model year.

Do Owners Recommend the Ford Fusion?

David M

Yes, it has lasted me for a long time and it was dependable and reliable whenever I needed it. I would love to fix it to make it last longer.

Lisa S

Yes it is. The car has been dependable, with very few issues. It has almost 200k miles on it. I did have to rebuild the transmission around 173k.

Darrian S

Yes it is. I believe the best feature for me personally is the mileage I get. For what I put in the tank I get back at a good amount.

Carter F

It's very good, reliable and easily fixable while still looking sharp and sleek. I actually recently crash my fusion, the front end was completely damaged and broken up, but someone the motor was completely fine! The car even called emergency services for me and after fixing it back up is completely running like nothing ever happened. Love this car, put a lot of work into it and even as an older car it is great.

Stacie C

I love my car. I have never had any issues with it. I bought it brand new and have only had to do maintenance.

Kelsey M

I like it and have enjoyed driving it, but I have gotten at least 2 recalls on it. Having a young child driving in the car with me a lot, this worries me so my answer would have to be yes and no.

Jason V

Yes overall its reliable and not too much goes wrong with it, at least nothing big so far. It just needs new tires soon.

Michael B

I have always had a good experience with my Ford Fusion. I bought it from my brother one year ago, so we have had this car in my family for about three years, now running on about 250,000 miles. We have had no issues with it, and it has never broken down on me like my previous car before that.

It's has headlights that come on when you put the car into gear.

I love my car. It drive amazingly. The sound system is great I'd buy this car again. Everything about this car is great. It's a great family car. Lots of room. It's great on gas. And it's got some get up and go to it. I would recommend this car to anyone.

Emily H on March 25, 2021

Fun car, easy to drive. Research the recalls on airbags.

This car is easy to drive and I feel most comfortable in this car compared to others I've driven. There have been recalls on the airbags which I need to look into resolving.

Ashley H on March 25, 2021

It honestly has been a great car that I have driven all up and down the East Coast without any issues.

My Fusion was a great car for the first few years. But now, with over 150,000 Miles, it is starting to slow down. I do love the dependability of my vehicle. And I loved where it has taken me over the years.

Adam I on March 21, 2021

2008 Ford Fusion review by very satisfied owner.

I never liked Ford vehicles before I owned this car. The Ford Fusion has been the most dependable and durable vehicle I've ever seen. The gas mileage has been great even when it hadn't been tuned up in awhile. The car has never broken down on me and it has unfortunately taken a beating. The features on it and stereo is very user friendly. It's a comfortable car for long road trips. This is a great car and I recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, decent looking car that is great on gas.

Rebecca S on March 17, 2021

Economical on gas and sharp looking

Compact but enough room for things. Good gas mileage. Love my sunroof! Which my vehicle had more than a 4 cylinder

Hatcher J on March 14, 2021

Ford Fusion is the best car out there!

No problems at all. I love my car. Perfect size for my small family and has good gas mileage! My favorite thing about it would be the gas mileage because we love to travel and it is always good to not have to spend most of your travel budget on gas!

Rachel M on March 12, 2021

Great, reliable car. No major problems in 12 years

It is a very reliable vehicle. The only inconvenience is the recent airbag recall. Also, the headlights are difficult to replace. The front wheel needs to be removed to change the headlights. Overall, the car drives well and I have not had any major problems with it in the 12 years I've owned it. Just routine maintenance.

J M on March 11, 2021

It has the features that makes you feel like you're driving a luxury car.

I like the space of the vehicle, it's also been dependable and drives well both on the highway and in the city.

Dustin H on March 5, 2021

I haven't had any major problems with the car, and have over 150,000 miles on it. The thermostat is reading incorrectly which causes more coolant to flow than is needed. The transmission is starting to feel a little "loose" in that when I shift to Dive, it doesn't always settle in fully and I sometimes have to jiggle the gear shift to get it right.

At 10 years old and with high mileage, no major issues. Generally pleased so far.

Emily K on March 5, 2021

It is very reliable and dependable.

The Ford Fusion is a very dependable car. I have been driving it for 6 years and has never had any major issues aside from your standard maintenance, battery replacements, etc. I have been in a couple of accidents but my car withstood both accidents and were repaired a reasonable prices as well. The interior is nice, comfort of the leather seats is only okay, not a lot of cushion. Fully lined with airbags in front and back. Large trunk space is really nice.

Codie B on March 5, 2021

I love that it has a lot of room. I love that I can fit a lot of friends in there. I love the electric windows

It changes gears a little slower than other cars and it has great gas mileage

Madison A on March 4, 2021

It is not technically my car, it is my dads. But he works overseas.

I like how perfectly sized my Ford fusion is; it is not huge but not a clown car either. I like how smooth my car runs and the mileage it gets. If I had to come up with one complaint it is that there is a little dent in the side my sister accidentally caused.

Darrell C on February 23, 2021

It's a keeper that can be passed onto the next generation because of its durability if you take care of your vehicle.

Compact, but roomy gas mileage durability low maintenance

Sarah M on February 18, 2021

My car has pretty good miles per gallon and can hold 13-15 gallons, so I get about 380 miles to empty, give or take some.

I bought my car used. I like that it is an automatic and has much better gas mileage than my last car. I love the amount of trunk space I have and that my children's car seats can fit comfortably in the car. I like the cold A/C and the keyless entry. I do not like that there has been an issue with the dashboard and that it is peeling up in multiple areas. I wish the car was a little bigger. I like that the driver seat moves automatically, but since it's an older car I worry that when the motor goes out I won't be able to adjust my seat.

Nicole W on February 14, 2021

Excellent on gas, very roomy.

Reliable, good on gas, very roomy, good speakers, trunk size good, ac is very loud, it cruises very well does not even feel like I am driving, turns excellent.

It is not very fast but it is a good car. I like it. Gets me where I need to go.

My vehicle is out of date but still drives well and gets me around. I would like to upgrade my car within the next year.

Arlene B on January 19, 2021

Dependable and reliable vehicle.

Great riding vehicle bought it used reliable great mileage roomy comfortable ride on long trips have only had major work done on it once. It has done all I need it to do only issue is a recall on the airbag not fixed yet a smooth riding vehicle very dependable I love it would gladly buy another one.

2008 ford fusion. Red. 4 door.

I have always had an SUV this is this first time I have had a car in 6 years. I love how small it seems, but it is very roomy. Drives great. I haven't had any problems out of my fusion.

Cami D on December 30, 2020

Ford Fusion. Reliable, affordable, and fun

My tensioner keeps having issues and causes a lot of other issues. The car is older of course, but it is holding up pretty well! It is very comfortable to sit in for long car rides. It is a long car and can be tough to pull out of and into parking spaces.

Holly R on December 28, 2020

It's not perfect but it's been pretty dependable and it holds up.

It's just the right size for me including 4 doors and trunk space. But because of the age and cheap production it has common problems like most fusions of the same year.

Crystal C on December 21, 2020

It is very comfortable it has enough trunk space.

Comfortable, great radio system cold ac. Smooth ride. Complaints very noisy and loud road noise I have never owned a Ford until this car and I must say it has been one of my most fave yet.

Cat M on December 12, 2020

That it is very reliable and has not let me down in 10 years.

I like pretty much everything. I do not like that upgrading my navigation costs $200. I would rather just be able to download a new one every year.

AndrewS S on December 12, 2020

A very reliable car. I have had very few mechanical issues since I've owned the car. Mostly minor repairs

Very few mechanical issue. I have the SEL trim package with the Microsoft Sync which I love. It's very comfortable with a great ride. I would recommend the Fusion to sedan buyers

Nick Z on December 4, 2020

Ford Fusion the good and bad.

Ford Fusion: bought it used and had a r title. Never had any issues with the car. Bought it as 50k miles and currently has almost 200k and still never had any issues. I love the heated seats and sunroof, love the leather interior and easy to clean. Only thing I dislike is it does not have a USB port that is compatible with my phone.

dina M on November 27, 2020

Ford fusion. Comfort, style and reliability.

The car is very reliable we live in the northeast and my fusion started everyday even when it was 0 below I love the lumbar seat I have many back problems and it is important to me to be able to change the positions of my seat I have to say I have been very happy overall with my gray ford fusion I would give it 2 thumbs up did I mention that it handles well on all surface and the gas mileage is spot on.

Candy F on November 27, 2020

That it is a great car to drive.

Too compact. More of a truck person. My fusion gets good gas mileage and it is paid for so that's the biggest plus to driving it.

Char G on November 26, 2020

Ford Fusion review... Try it out

It sucks, the pump is out, it's raggedy, but it gets me from place to place which is most important. I like that it's pretty spacious. I like that it's silver, I like that it has a working radio, it is a decent car to ride in. I would recommend one for first time car owners

Hannah L on November 26, 2020

Meets Expectations; Not Built to Impress

We have had this car for a long time and it has performed well for us. We have driven it on a 16 hour road trip, there and back twice now through mountains and it has performed well. We currently get about 400 miles out of a full tank of gas. As many cars currently have, it displays the miles until empty which has been very helpful and has not had a problem starting in cold weather. There are some problems however. Randomly this year, the driver side door handle stopped working from the inside. For a few weeks, we had to roll down the window, open it from the outside and roll the window back up just to get out. It has a good amount of room for a sedan; however, could not fit a table we tried to buy once because of the design of the trunk opening. All of our complaints are small. Besides the door handle, everything functional about the car has met our expectations. I would recommend this car if you were thinking about getting a Sedan.

Olga L on November 18, 2020

That it is low fuel cost and therefore I do not need to spend a lot on fuel.

No complaints, what I love about my car is that it is low fuel cost and runs smooth, we are a small family so it is perfect.

Jessica M on November 17, 2020

Cute, reliable car with great features and mileage.

This is a reliable car. It looks great, has a nice interior. Side mirrors have little mirrors that help for better view. Easy to drive. It is comfortable. 4 door. Performs well and has good gas mileage, I get about 26 mpg. It is only 4 cylinder, so not a lot of power. Air injection system is known to have problems, but overall it is a great car.

2008 Ford Fusion Review: bad car gears

I bought my car in 2010. A couple of years after having it, the gear had to be replaced. Also, my breaks are horrible in my car (even after being fixed). The airbags had a recall. I would say it's a decent car to get you around, but had multiple problems with it.

Geoffrey W on November 9, 2020

Great for leg room, with decent fuel economy.

Gets 28 MPG. I have a 4 cylinder engine with a manual transmission. Plenty of room. The rear seats fold down offering a ton of space. 6 disc changer and aux input are a great addition.

Kayla A on October 31, 2020

Can play 6 CDs at one time

Great on gas mileage and very comfortable, but the paint tends to bubble and peel real easy. Overall, great car love the 6 CD thing, both the heating and air work real well even though there is no in between. It has been super reliable, the only mechanical issues I've faced are the standard problems such as brakes and muffler along with one air bag recall which the company kindly fixed at their expense and offered a rental.

Sylvia P on October 28, 2020

Overall, it's a dependable and comfortable car.

I like that my vehicle is basically reliable- especially for New England weather. It also delivers a pretty smooth ride. I wish it had a sharper turn and was a little faster on the pick-up. Overall it's a good car.

Sarah H on October 25, 2020

2008 ford fusion se with multi disc CD player and audio input feature.

My fusion has been extremely reliable. It currently has about 135,000 miles on it and I have had no real issues with it. The only time I have had to have something fixed other than the normal maintenance is when my door handle broke. It has never broken down on me or had any major problems.

Ruben D on October 24, 2020

It is made with cheap door handles and dashboard. Both, my driver and passenger door handles broke within the first year and the dashboard cracked within a few years.

I love the Ford Fusion but I am not happy with the way it was built. The car is made with cheap plastic parts. Within the first year the inside door handle broke, after a few years the whole dashboard is cracked and it had a cover just so that would not happen.

Stephanie K on October 23, 2020

Interesting that Ford has yet to recall the brake problem.

Have had a problem with the brakes that I have read a lot of other people had the same issue and it should have been a recall from ford. Also have had problems with my serpentine belt coming off. Have had to change a pulley and tensioner which hopefully has fixed the problem.

That it's been a really dependable and reliable car.

I love my Ford Fusion. It has been a great car. I have had zero problems with it.

Desi N on October 15, 2020

It is a gray. It's got dents. The dashboard lights are green.

Pipes rust fast. Good gas mileage. Inside of car falls apart pretty fast as well. Doesn't take too long to get up to speed. Pretty good in snow with new tires. The body style is nice but it does get smashed up somewhat easily. I love the cruise control but do wish it was Bluetooth compatible.

Ford Fusion: Good family car

Bought used three years ago. It is a good sturdy car with minimal issues. Good for a family of four with a bit of space to spare.

Cassie D on October 9, 2020

Good vehicle, no real issues

I've had this vehicle almost 5 years, bought it with 150,000 miles. Have only had to do regular maintenance, no major issues. It's a manual. My only complaint is that when it's wet out the tires tend to spin when stopped and attempting to accelerate, even with new all weather tires

Carrie K on October 9, 2020

It has over 250000 miles on it and we haven't had to put a lot of money into it.

It has been a really reliable car. Good gas mileage reliable. Has a lot of miles and still runs very well.

Carol H on October 6, 2020

Gets great gas mileage. I get 400 miles to a tank of gas.

I have been very satisfied with my vehicle. It has 127,000 miles on it and I haven't had any real issues with it. Just regular maintenance like new tires, oil changes and brakes. It performs well in the snow because it has front wheel drive. I take it on road trips and it performs excellent. I get great gas mileage. All in all I've been very satisfied with my vehicle!

Tucker S on October 5, 2020

Amazing car that is extremely reliable.

I absolutely love my car. It has been so reliable over the years. It is at 150, 000 miles and still going strong. Nothing major has been needed to be replaced or done just normal wear and tear. It has the moon and tune package so it has some great sound. I will definitely be looking into another Ford Fusion when it gets to be time to get a new car.

2008 Ford Fusion, nice car. Too bad Ford is discontinuing the model.

Bought used with issues. Tune ups need to be done by a professional. Closed transmission makes it difficult to check. Ac & heat are great. Car has great pick up for a 6 cylinder. Seats & driving visibility are comfortable for shorter stature drivers.
